I know that it is unlikely that younger readers have read this book, but Jonathan Safran Foer's novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extremely_Loud_and_Incredibly_Close) gave me something to think about and maybe you guys want to share your opinion about it.

What if a sad man lost the ability to speak? So he has to write down things to talk to people. One day he meets a woman, who is also a bit sad. He was in love with her sister. He talks to this woman the same way he talks to other people: by writing things down. She does say that her eyes are crummy (bad).

Then one day, somehow, he discovers that her eyes are more than crummy: she can't see. She is blind. She has never been able to read his words, he never really talked to her.

How do you think they communicated, if she couldnt read his words?

Wow, that sounds like an amazing book!
Maybe they commuinicated somehow through emotions?
I would really like to read that book.
I will definately check it out next time I'm at the library.
Oh and what is the woman's and man's name?

This is just a side story from the book ;) It's interwoven but the main story is about a young boy who is very clever and has lots of hobbies. His father died and he misses him terribly. The boy goes to look for clues for a mystery hi dad had seemed to set up for him, looking for people who knew his father.

This story about the man and the woman seems to be about his grandparents and how they met.

It's a book about losing people, but it's not a sad book. Well, it can make you laugh from time to time, and it is touching.

2 possible things sprang into my mind
by touching her, like spell out what he wants to say to her on her hand
or
first someones reads what he writes and tells the woman
and the woman can just tell him her reply since he can hear
